I was taking a Writing Fiction class over at UCLA and one of the materials the professor provided us with was a publication of short stories and poems. Included therein was a famous rejection of a rejection letter where an author refused to accept a rejection because he had already received far too many. The letter went on to be published though the original story remained rejected.
That letter you linked seems to be based off the published letter. In fact, I think a good bit of the wording is exactly the same. I'll have to see if I can locate that original text somewhere...
